The Enchantment

by Victoria Benedictsson, Adapted and Translated by Tommy Lexen

directed by Lucy Jane Atkinson

Ducdame Ensemble presents THE ENCHANTMENT

Written by the real 19th-century woman who inspired both 'Hedda Gabler' and 'Miss Julie,' THE ENCHANTMENT follows Louise, a young woman from rural Sweden, who arrives in Paris at the height of the Belle Epoque. Swept up in all this magical world has to offer, she soon falls under the spell of the city’s most revered sculptor. Torn between liberation and tradition, fantasy and reality, Louise begins to question whether the life she has always known is really the one she wants to live. A revered Swedish classic in a new translation/adaptation, THE ENCHANTMENT makes its long-awaited North American Premiere! This production is a part of SubletSeries@HERE: a curated rental program, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment, as well as technical support. DEsire. DEcision. DEstruction.
