directed by Whitney Aronson

Ivette Dumeng as Kristina

Kristina is the true story of Sweden's only ruling queen (and unacknowledged basis for the Garbo film "Queen Christina") and the scandals leading up to her abdication in 1654: accusations that she had stolen or squandered a five million daler tribute and rumors of her impending conversion to Roman Catholicism. She is shown struggling against old lovers and former mentors, putting on ballets to distract from her financial misconduct, fighting her feminine nature and finally succumbing to it. The production uses elements of the 1920's to simulate the 1600's (Kristina wore pants, which were first adopted by women in the 20's; both periods were postwar epochs.)
