"Vintage Wine, or Past Its Prime?" is written and directed by Charles Allcroft, featuring Lavinia Co-op, Jim Neu, Clio Young, Agosto Machado, Little Annie, Terri Robinson, Nicky Paraiso, Joe Munley and Ulla Dydo, among others. A bittersweet play about the nature of teaching, and how to overcome the despair of a long career when you are unsure you can reach students any more. A parable that compares teaching blocks with the nature of love: just like someone who has been burned in love is bound to fall head over heels again, the teacher at the end of her/his rope is bound to break through and find the way back to innocent commitment and renewal. Charles Allcroft's diverse creations span multi-media spectacles, eerie solo works, and dreamlike chamber plays. Dreamlike, unique, hilarious and moving, this downtown playwright's recent works include "Snowman Serenade," "The Rainbow Flea," and "Dreamboats and Sleepyheads." Allcroft's trademark use of trash and found objects, dancers, music collages, and shimmering visual effects brings to life an otherworldly poetic realm. No minimalist, Allcroft's wonderful impractical universe is juicy and irresistible, like a penny in a muddy puddle.
