directed by Vit Horejs
A featured presentation of its 50th Anniversary season, La MaMa will reprise what may have been the first puppet "Golem" ever: Czechoslovak American Marionette Theatre's (CAMT) dance-theater rendition of the famed Jewish legend, conceived and directed by CAMT’s artistic director, Vít Hořejš. Golem will be performed in La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre, 66 East Fourth Street, a historical site of innovation in Jewish Theater since 1882 when it was known as the Turn Theater and home to the first Yiddish play in New York. The production has original music by Frank London (The Klezmatics) and choreography by Naomi Goldberg Haas. Written and directed by Vít Hořejš, Golem production features nine dancers and puppeteers, and a cast of over 20 small to life-sized wooden marionettes.
