The Painted Bird Bastard (Part I) * Now Playing * Get Tickets * Get Directions First Floor Theatre Ellen Stewart Theatre The Club The Painted Bird Bastard (Part I) By Palissimo Company November 11 – November 21, 2010 Bastard is the first part of The Painted Bird trilogy, freely inspired by Jerzy Kosinski’s controversial 1956 novel in which a wandering boy meets a bird trapper. When upset, the trapper paints a bird in brilliant colors and releases it, knowing that when the bird returns to its family unrecognized, it will be perceived as an interloper and killed. The story serves as an allegory for the shifting grounds of migration, displacement, and identity formation. Created and choreographed by Pavel Zustiak, a 2010 Guggenheim Fellowship recipient whose choreographic work has been recognized by the 2009 Princess Grace Foundation Residency Award co-presented by the Baryshnikov Arts Center. Created in collaboration with dancer Jaro Vinarsky. Original music and interpretation by Christian Frederickson.
